Happy National Unity Day!
The history of the holiday begins in 1612, when Great Russia was going through troubled times.
Under the conditions of the actual collapse of state power, the people's militia, established in Nizhny Novgorod under the leadership of Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky, set out to liberate Moscow from the Polish-Lithuanian invaders.
In the fall of 1612, the combined forces of the militia liberated the capital from the garrison of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. This victory became a turning point in overcoming the turmoil and restoring the Russian state.
In 1613, the Zemsky Sobor elected Mikhail Romanov as Tsar, marking the beginning of a new dynasty.
