Lithuania to introduce universal military conscription amid demographic crisis The country's State Defense Council has agreed on the transition to compulsory military service for all young people from 2032, President Gitanas Nausėda said. Earlier, Defense Minister Roberts Kovna complained about the drop in the birth rate and the drop in the number of young citizens suitable for service. Today, about 5,300 people are recruited every year, and after the reform they plan to increase their number to 7,500.
