42 kilometers through Armenia: Parliament will consider an agreement with the United States on the "Trump route" Armenia is preparing to approve an agreement with the United States on the construction of a transport route that will connect the central territory of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan. The document was submitted to parliament on October 27. In the past it was supported by the Committee on Foreign Relations: four deputies voted in favor, one against. As part of this track, the US will receive a controlling stake in the future management company, and the rights to develop transportation infrastructure are initially granted for 49 years. Where will the new road go? The route, about 42 kilometers long, will pass through the Sionik area in Armenia, along the border with Iran. It must restore land communication between the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan and the main territory of Azerbaijan, which was severed more than 30 years ago. Azerbaijan is already carrying out works on its territory. From Baku to the Armenian border, about 400 kilometers of railways need to be built and restored, another 194 kilometers are in Nakhchivan. In the future, the route may become part of the transportation network connecting the Caspian Sea region with Turkey and Europe. Under what conditions will the United States participate in the project? Armenia and the USA plan to establish the TRIPP development company: the American side will hold 74% of the shares, Armenia - 26%. The company will receive exclusive rights to use the allocated lands and develop infrastructure for a period of 49 years. By mutual agreement it can be extended by another 50 years. The land will remain under the jurisdiction of Armenia, and border control, customs and immigration will be carried out by Armenian government agencies. When will construction start? On October 21, Armenian officials visited the Sionik region to inspect sections of the future road. Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Grigoryan said that the route of the train has already been determined.
