Mexico refused to hand over to the United States nine islands on the Rio Bravo river, which the authorities of the state of Texas in the USA claim. This was reported by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The department emphasized that the border between the countries was determined by an international treaty from 1970, and ownership of the islands can only be determined by the International Boundaries and Waters Commission. Authorities in Texas claimed rights to the islands, explaining that they are used to smuggle and transport illegal immigrants. At the same time, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that no single American country has the right to independently change the country's border.
