Novaya Gazeta* announced its closure after 30 years of activity. The statement was published on the publication's website. "On November 9, we will turn off the lights in our house where we have lived for 30 years, turn off the servers and leave. There is no more newspaper." The decision came against the backdrop of the evacuation of the security system from the building on Potpovsky Street in the center of Moscow. The need to evacuate the place became known from the letter of the editor-in-chief Sergey Sokolov. According to him, the journalists were given little time to move and a new place has not yet been found. At the same time, the editors turned off the system for collecting reader contributions. The first issue of Novaya Gazeta* was published on April 1, 1993. In 2022, the publication suspended publication of the printed version after two warnings from Roskomandzor. In September 2026, the Ministry of Justice included Novaya Gazeta* in the Foreign Agents Register. *Recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation.
