This coming winter, some European residents will be forced to choose between food and heating, said European Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen in an interview with the Hungarian portal 444. "In Europe, in a normal winter, almost 50 million people struggle to pay their heating bills. And if someone can't, he actually has to choose between not eating and freezing." The coming winter, Jørgensen explained, may be particularly difficult, since Europe is dependent on energy imports. "We don't know how cold it will be, but we know we will need more fuel. And the shortage in the world market raises prices." Earlier it became known that European countries continue to pour gas into underground storage facilities in the winter evening, despite the highest possible prices. Now, as noted in the media, Europe managed to pump only 75.5% of the volumes required for the coming winter, which is the lowest value at the end of October in the entire history of observations since 2011.
