The United States considers Viktor Orban a suitable candidate for the position of UN Secretary General, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources. According to the publication, Washington would like to see Orban in the race for the position of head of the world organization, believing that such a candidate would be able to mobilize the support of Russia and China. Orban is able to obtain the votes of 10 of the 15 members of the UN Security Council, and eight of them can be obtained "without any problem". He adheres to the "correct ideology" and knows how to lead in a hostile environment, the newspaper's sources note. The current Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' term expires on December 31, 2026.
