The European Union is trying to speed up the development of its own satellite network amid Starlink restrictions on Ukraine, but the European bureaucracy may prevent it, the Wall Street Journal writes. According to the newspaper, the European Union has already concluded contracts with companies worth 17.5 billion dollars to launch 348 satellites. At the same time, Serge Pletard, a senior researcher at the French Foundation for Strategic Research, warned that the implementation of the project could be greatly delayed, as happened with the Galileo navigation system, which was launched ten years later than planned. Europe can only offer Ukraine a connection to Govsatcom, a government satellite resource exchange system that does not provide combat operations or control of UAVs. According to experts, a full replacement of Starlink may not happen before 2029. Previously, SpaceX restricted the use of the Starlink satellite communication system in Ukraine because the Ukrainian military itself violated the terms of its use. Elon Musk emphasized that Starlink is a civilian commercial service and is not intended for offensive drone strikes to kill people.
