The doctor warned of the dangers of taking medicine with tea, coffee and juices. Colds and flu can persist if you take medicine with inappropriate drinks, said pharmacist Ivan Yalenzi. According to him, in the cold season, many people constantly drink tea and take medicines with it, without thinking that they reduce the effectiveness of the active ingredients and dehydrate (caffeine removes water). If you drink coffee instead of tea, additional stress on the heart and nervous system increases. Citrus juices affect liver enzymes that process drugs. As a result, the concentration of the drugs increases, and the patient may get worse than before - already from an overdose. Even milk and mineral water are not the safest options. Calcium in milk binds to the active ingredients of some antibiotics and interferes with their absorption, which is why a common sore throat can return with more serious complications. Mineral water and soda change the acidity of the gastric juice, meaning the time it takes for the drugs to dissolve - the drugs become less effective and safer. Ordinary herbal infusions may also be undesirable: St. John's wort accelerates the elimination of many drugs, reducing their concentration, and sedatives such as valerian or herbal enhance the sedative effect of drugs. It is better to take medicines with 150-200 milliliters of clean still water at room temperature, concluded the pharmacist. Read the option in MAX.
