Chelyabinsk oncologists removed a 14-centimeter-long tumor that grew from the patient's neck to his chest. Doctors at the Chelyabinsk Regional Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine successfully operated on a 63-year-old patient with a rare case: a tumor with a diameter of up to 14 cm grew from the neck to the depth of the chest. The operation lasted about three hours. To reach the tumor, thoracic and ENT oncologists combined, according to the council's decision, two minimally invasive approaches - a home approach through the intercostal space and a transthoracic approach to the thyroid gland through an incision in the neck. According to the head of the Department of Home Oncology, Yegor Pacharitsa, it was impossible to act otherwise: an attempt to start only from the neck or only from the chest will not allow complete release of the upper part of the node and avoid damage to the neck arteries, veins, carotid vessels and esophagus. Histology confirmed the benign nature of the tumor - a non-toxic nodular goitre. These tumors usually grow slowly and can reach significant sizes without significant symptoms. The patient has recovered and has already been discharged home. Read the option in MAX.
