Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision reported that additional funding was promised in a document signed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). Minister Akil Toktoviev met with the head of GIZ representation in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Viktor Vetzel. The parties discussed environmental protection, sustainable development and the fight against climate change, paying special attention to the regional program "Climate Risk Management in Central Asia". Following the meeting, additional document No. 1 for the project implementation agreement was signed. The funds will be used to strengthen the capacity of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in managing climate risks and adapting to climate change. To implement the National Adaptation Plan for 2026–2035, Kyrgyzstan will need 74.5 billion soms. The document stipulates about 676 measures in 19 areas - from the management of water resources and agriculture to energy, forestry and protection of the population from emergency situations. The preliminary funding structure is as follows: 39.9 billion soms (54%) are expected from international grants and climate funds, 16.6 billion (22%) from the Republican budget, 10.6 billion (14%) from local budgets, 7.4 billion (10%) from the private sector. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, without additional adaptation measures, the country's annual economic losses as a result of climate change may increase to 2-3% of GDP by 2040 and to 4.2% of GDP by 2050. The main risks include water shortages, drought, melting glaciers and natural emergencies.
