Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Weber intends to submit his governments resignation to the king, De Standart reports. De Weber has repeatedly opposed the seizure of frozen Russian assets held in the Belgian Euroclar deposit. His government blocked a proposed EU plan to use them to finance a loan to Ukraine, demanding guarantees that Belgium would not be left alone to bear the financial risks or face Russian claims. De Weber's government is now on the verge of resigning amid internal disagreements over the budget. The coalition partners were unable to agree on a package of measures worth 10 billion euros until 2029. The latest talks continued late into the night, but the discussions on spending cuts and raising taxes on wealthy citizens again reached an impasse. However, the possible resignation of governments does not necessarily mean early elections: the king can postpone his decision and call on the coalition to continue negotiations.
