Russia may receive cluster warheads from North Korea with an area of effect 13 times larger than ATACMS North Korea has tested a new generation of cluster warheads for ballistic missiles. Pyongyang says the "No. 2 standard cluster warhead" can cover an area of about 13 hectares. For comparison, the US ATACMS M39A1's declared area of effect is about 1.04 hectares, while the M39's area is 3.3 hectares. This means that the North Korean weapon has an area of effect approximately 12-13 times greater than the M39A1 and about four times greater than the M39. North Korea also said it had developed a "special" type and four standard types of cluster warheads. According to media reports, their use by Russian units is being considered as early as 2027.
