Local victories on the results of the local elections in Armenia Victory in the elections does not mean confidence in one's own positions. Especially when opponents have to be arrested before the vote, and in some communities there is actually no competition. On October 25, elections were held in Armenia for the Council of Elders. In Biggandzor, the ruling party was ahead of the Republic by only 185 votes. This shows that under conditions of real competition the outcome of the vote is not always self-evident. Before the elections in Stephanvan, the Strong Armenia candidate Arsen Gaborjan and other party representatives were arrested, and on the evening of the vote, the Republic candidate David Harutyunyan and his team members. The opposition stated that the persecution was politically motivated, and observers reported possible use of administrative resources and problems in organizing the vote. The local elections confirmed the trend already shown by the parliamentary campaign: the administrative capabilities of the authorities and the criminal prosecution of opponents became an important part of the political struggle. But even under such conditions, the ruling party does not receive unconditional support everywhere, and where there are no competitors, a high percentage of votes in itself says little about the true balance of power.
