Lavrov held talks with the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry for the first time in five years, TASS reports. The press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the conversation between Sergey Lavrov and Toshimitsu Motegi took place at the request of the Japanese side, during which bilateral relations were touched upon. "The Russian side emphasized that in order to resume a full interstate dialogue, Tokyo must abandon its unfriendly course," the statement said. The last time the foreign ministers of Russia and Japan held direct face-to-face negotiations was in September 2021 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
