Hackers have turned European supermarket fridges into ovens. On the night of November 2, the attack hit stores in five countries - Belgium, Sweden, Luxembourg, Estonia and Ireland. The attackers activated the defrost, raising the temperature to +50...+70 degrees Celsius.
About 60 Delhaize, Carrefour and SPAR stores were affected in Belgium and Luxembourg. At some points, food worth more than 100 thousand euros was thrown away. In Sweden, several supermarkets were forced to close temporarily, and in Estonia, out of 120 facilities attacked, only one was damaged.
The hacking was done through loopholes in controllers connected to the Internet. Hackers turned off the alarm and started thawing. The manufacturer previously recommended updating the equipment, but many stores did not.
