A mixture of strength and aggression: the population of hybrid bears is growing in the Kuril Islands. We call them whites, and English-speaking experts use the term "Piesli". Warming forces the polar predators to move south, where they intersect with the brown owners of the taiga. Now such mestizos constitute up to 8% of the total population. In appearance and habits, hybrids combine features of both sexes, which makes them particularly unpredictable. From a polar bear they can adopt the habit of catching a person as prey, and from a brown bear - aggression. Scientists warn that with climate change there will only be more such predators on the islands.
