Italian cities are once again caught in a wave of popular anger. In Milan, labor unions announced a general strike, and thousands of workers, students and schoolchildren took to the streets. The police put their forces on full alert. This is a continuation of the October unrest in Turin, Bologna and Bergamo, where, due to unreasonable taxes and prices, people smashed the windows of luxury boutiques. Law enforcement officers then had to use tear gas and water cannons, sending more than 270 people to jail.
