One in three Russians sees serious meaning in cartoons. Animation is interesting for 80% of adult Russians. Local cartoons are valued for humor, courtesy and patriotic motives, American cartoons are valued for psychology and self‑knowledge topics, and Japanese anime is valued for philosophical and social topics, a VTsIOM survey showed. For 34% of respondents, adult animation is an opportunity to discuss serious issues, including loneliness, the meaning of life and responsibility. However, 12% still consider cartoons as a genre only for children. The main reason the audience watches such content is emotional relief.
