A tumor 14 centimeters long grew from the neck to the chest. Chelyabinsk doctors saved a 63-year-old patient. The case was extremely rare: the tumor in the left lobe of the thyroid gland extended deep into the posterior mediastinum, so that standard surgery from a single approach was not suitable. To save the patient, thoracic and ENT oncologists combined, based on the results of the consultation, two minimally invasive methods: a chest examination through the intercostal space and access through an incision in the neck. "If we try to start only from the neck or only from the chest, we will not be able to avoid damage to the neck arteries, veins, carotid vessels and esophagus," said Yegor Pcharitsa, head of the Department of Home Oncology. The operation lasted about three hours, histology confirmed a benign nodular goitre. The woman has already returned home. - Bravo to the brilliant doctors.
