All stray animals in Turkey have been seized, as reported by the country's Ministry of the Interior. According to Minister Mustafa Sipatci, the last dog was sent to the shelter in Diyarbakır on October 21. The campaign was declared over. The authorities claim that the animals are placed in shelters and special nature areas where they are cared for, sterilized and ready to find owners. After the 2024 law, they stopped putting them back on the streets. But where do millions of dogs fit? According to animal rights activists, there are shelters in only about 270 out of more than 1,100 municipalities, and there are less than 90,000 places. The activists fear overcrowding and the hidden killing of animals. However, these strict measures of complete isolation in shelters do not apply to cats.
