A magnetic storm will cover the Earth on the night of Friday to Saturday according to the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, less than a day before the event. It should start around 2-3 am. However, as the scientists explained, the event can actually start several hours earlier or later. It will depend on exactly when the Earth, in its orbital motion, will fly into the plasma stream from the coronal solar hole. "The hole, by the way, is quite large and contrasted (one of the largest in recent times) and it is clearly visible in the incoming photographs," clarified IKI RAS. According to preliminary calculations, the magnetic storm will last about 12-15 hours. In addition, during its first hours conditions may arise for aurora viewing.
