Dr. Adam Hamawi, who volunteered in Gaza in 2024 and 2025, wins a seat in the US House in New Jersey's 12th district.
"I went to Gaza as a surgeon. I returned home determined to make sure that the people in power could no longer ignore what I had seen," he told muslim.com in June 2026.
Over the past 30 years, Hamawi has volunteered in several conflict zones including Haiti, Sudan, Syria and Lebanon.
