State Rep. James Tallarico won the U.S. Senate race in Texas on Tuesday, according to media projections, defeating President Donald Trump with the support of Republican Ken Paxton.
Tallarico becomes the first Democrat to win a statewide race in Texas since 1994. His victory gives the party a significant boost in the battle for control of the Senate.
In Kansas, Adam Hamilton won the Senate race, knocking the seat out of Republican control for the first time since 1932, according to US media projections.
