A high-speed train collision near Orda, south of Madrid, killed at least 46 people on October 28, according to regional civil protection sources, as emergency crews continued rescue and recovery operations.
The crash involved a Renfe AVE train, carrying 397 passengers, and an Erio train, carrying 147, on the Madrid-Seville line. Two cars derailed and fell into an embankment.
The cause remains under investigation and train services linking Madrid, Ciudad Real and Andalusia have been suspended.
Government sources warned that the death toll could exceed that of the January crash near Adamuz, which killed 46 people.
