Iran says its forces have seized another "advanced and smart" unmanned submarine belonging to the US military in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on the official news outlet of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Sepah News, the navy said the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), which was carrying out "espionage" activities in the Strait of Hormuz, was captured in a "coordinated and complex operation with intelligence dominance and electronic warfare."

Earlier this month, the IRGC announced that it had captured one of the US military's "most modern and smart" unmanned submarines at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, identifying it as a "Saildrone Explorer" (translated locally as Dive-LD), according to Sepah News.

Following the seizure, US Central Command said that the American underwater drone had "malfunctioned" more than 24 hours earlier and was conducting a patrol in the area of the incident at the time.
