California officially recognized Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha as statewide holidays under a new law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom on September 27.

The law gives official recognition at the state level to the two major Muslim holidays and allows schools and public institutions to accommodate those who observe them, helping people exercise their faith without academic or professional conflicts.

In 2025, Washington became the first US state to officially recognize Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
