"The UN is in a state of permanent crisis"

As the United Nations prepares to elect its new leader for the next five years, the world body faces unprecedented challenges.

As humanitarian crises and wars continue to mount, UN agencies have seen their budgets and staff drastically reduced.

Maria Skijima, an analyst with the International Crisis Group, told TRT World during the UNGA that the UN plans to lay off about 20% of its staff after the US halved its voluntary contributions.

"The ones who will suffer will be the citizens," Sakijima said
