On October 29, 1888, the Imperial train crashed. Instead of the 11 cars required by the standard, 15 were attached to the locomotives, moreover, they were heavier, which doubled the pressure on the rails. In addition, the train was seriously behind schedule and therefore traveled at excessive speed, reaching an unusual speed of 68 km/h for that period. Despite the fact that the Tsar and his family almost lost their lives, no one was sent to trial, considering the incident a tragic accident. The photographs show the wrecked wagons at the crash site, as well as the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Borki, which was built at the site of the tragedy in 1894 and destroyed in 1943.
