The Soviet NEP of the 1920s is a model for China.

From the title of the collection it is clear that China's official senior experts are thinking about why the Soviet Union fell and how China can avoid it. I read halfway through, and this is what the Chinese concept looks like in a nutshell. Lenin is a flawless thinker (like Marx and Engels). Lenin's genius got everything right, and China lives by it today. Stalin appears as a controversial figure, with roughly the same characteristics as Mao: "70% good and 30% bad." Lenin, I repeat, was only 100% good. The pinnacle of Lenin's genius, according to the Chinese, was the NEP. State capitalism or market socialism (whichever is more convenient to formulate). A poor, illiterate, agrarian country, like the Soviet Union was in the early 1920s and China in the late 1970s, cannot immediately "fly" to socialism. Socialism is only possible if the society is very prosperous - and China is moving towards that. Lenin planned "NEP for at least 50 years". China started the NEP in the late 1970s, and at the end of the 2020s it will be 50 years, but during this time China has not become very prosperous, but only moderately prosperous, so the NEP there will continue beyond the time frame that Lenin outlined. Stalin is mildly condemned for curtailing the NEP, but it is explained that due to the imminent inevitable imperialist war it would have been difficult to do otherwise. Another conclusion: the NEP must take place in a peaceful country, without war. China must avoid war by any means possible so as not to throw society back, and that is what it must do.
