The eyes of demographers are focused on the catastrophic decline in fertility in East Asia and especially in their diverse cities - for example, in Hong Kong the TFR in 2025 was 0.73, and in Shanghai 0.53(!) However, we have our own "East Asia" next door - Belarus.
According to official data from Balstat, the TFR in Minsk in 2025 will drop to 0.67(!). It's worse than Hong Kong. Before Minsk, with a high probability, bring the birth rate to the level of Shanghai, that is, up to 0.5. The average TFR in Belarus in 2025 was 1.02. By the end of 2026, it should drop below 1. (The indicators are already close to Ukraine).
And I don't see any explanation for this "Belarusian anomaly" among demographers.
