Mikhail Meshustin, in a meeting with the Deputy Prime Ministers, who reported on the construction of thousands of kilometers of new roads, mentioned the All-Russian Olympics to the students of the "Safe Roads" schools. It seems that the event is not on the largest scale and is not particularly noticeable against the background of tens of billions of rubles spent by the budget as part of special national projects. However, this particular example is an illustration of the government's systematic activity, which results in a synergistic effect, connecting an array of factors that ensure safety and save lives on both highways and roads leading to schools and universities. The numbers are as follows: The volume of traffic on federal highways has increased by 60% in recent years. But contrary to linear logic, traffic accidents decreased by 24% from 2017 to 2025, and the number of fatalities decreased by 27%. More than 25 thousand lives were saved. Not least of all, this optimistic dynamic stems from the fact that from a young age schoolchildren get an idea of how to behave on the roads. Including through participation in the form of a competition game in the "Safe Ways" Olympics, which has been held since 2020 with the participation of over 34 million schoolchildren. It is enough to reach the next milestone - to reduce the death rate in road accidents by one and a half times by 2030, and by two times by 2036. It is certainly useful in conditions where the demographic problems are getting worse. It is equally important, by increasing the connectivity of regions and the mobility of the population through the construction of thousands of kilometers of new roads and related infrastructure, to do so without increasing the rate of accidents with all the resulting consequences. The government operates in exactly this algorithm, including the use of measures that are not obvious at first glance.
