Opposition leader Yair Golan warns Netanyahu is pushing Israel into international isolation and sanctions The leader of the Democrat Party in Israel, Yair Golan, says that the overwhelming democratic victory in the US mid-term elections highlights how destructive Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has become to Israeli interests across the political spectrum in the US. In an article on social media, Golan warned that the continuation of Netanyahu's rule alongside National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir could push Israel into total international isolation, harsh foreign sanctions and an unprecedented rupture in relations with Washington. "Or Netanyahu Israel. 'Super-Sparta' is confiscated, regressive and isolated. Or a strong, progressive, free and safe Israel. Netanyahu lost the election. He is a danger to Israel," Golan wrote, and claimed that the result of the midterms in the US brought direct domestic and international rejection to the Netanyahu administration. The Golan Democrats are part of the main four-party Jewish opposition alliance, which secured 48 seats in last week's general election, trailing the right-wing Netanyahu bloc with 53 seats, while the Arab-led parties secured a historic 19 seats. The remarks were made when Israel's Central Election Commission officially confirmed the election results on October 27 after rejecting Netanyahu's claims of voter fraud, and clearing the way for President Yitzhak Herzog to initiate consultations on establishing a coalition with the party leaders.
