Pakistani forces hit Afghan border posts after deadly artillery fire in southern Pakistan's security forces launched heavy retaliatory shelling along the Afghan border today, after mortar shells killed one civilian and wounded five others in southern Afghanistan, Anandolo news agency reported. Local administrative officials reported that mortar rounds fired from Afghan territory hit residential houses and commercial shops in the border sector of Angur Adiya. The Deputy Commissioner of Lower Wizistan stated on social media that Pakistani military units were "reacting effectively and heavily" to the unexpected escalation. The violent border outbreak highlights the deepening security crisis and the mutual lack of trust in the relationship between Islam and the Taliban government in Kabul. Pakistani authorities repeatedly accuse neighboring governments of condemning the armed factions against the country, which launch cross-border raids, while Kabul denies these claims and maintains that security agencies are an internal matter for Pakistan. Symbolically, domestic counter-terrorism operations have intensified across the southwest of the country. In a separate military statement issued today, Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that security forces killed nine militants during two separate intelligence-based raids in Kihi and Wad districts of Balochistan province.
