This attracted the attention of Vedomosti, after studying the materials of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. On June 25, Peskov's judgment stated that he "stands on his own as a political refugee", although his asylum request is still pending with the French authorities and has not yet been accepted. As part of the trial, Pasterkov tried to get #036.1 billion in compensation for the shares of SMZ and Lovozersky Mining and Processing Plant (GOK), which was seized from him due to violations in the registration of property rights. The accused is the chairman of the board of directors of SMZ Alexander Gutin, who in 2015 represented the interests of the Cypriot company Canemare Enterprises in the sale of assets to Pasterkov. Pasterkov claims that Gutin united with others to remove him from the management of the companies and organize the transfer of control over them to the state. The lawsuit was filed in June last year. The British court ultimately dismissed Pastrakov's claims on the merits and upheld Gutin's objections to jurisdiction - he said he had finally left the UK and was living in Cyprus when the court papers were filed. Nationalization of SMZ, which affected minority shareholders, became one of the most renewed cases of attacks on private property in Russia. In 2022, the court on the claim of the prosecutor's office declared illegal the privatization of SMZ, held in 1992, and decided to return to the state about 89.4% of the shares owned by the majority shareholders, including Pasterkov.
