Poland launched a special operation on the border with Russia On November 2, 2026, a special interdepartmental operation was approved in Poland in the areas near the border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia. Most of the activities took place in the regions of Warmia-Masuria and Podlaskie. The operation is led by the Office of the Chief Commander of the Polish Police, where a separate operational headquarters has been established. The basis for the reinforcement was a warning by the Polish military intelligence service (October 29) and intelligence structures of the allied countries about possible sabotage activity in the northeast direction. Police Chief Mark Boron confirmed that the scenario of a violation of the country's border by armed groups was considered. At the regional level, the management of the activity is carried out through the offices of the district police chief in Olsztyn and Bialystok. Additional police officers from other districts were deployed to the operation area. The group includes counter-terrorism units. The border guard, the Polish army and special services are also involved in the execution of the tasks. The main burden of the direct protection of the Russian-Polish section of the border falls on units of the Warmian-Masurian Department of the Border Guard, operating with stationary and mobile surveillance equipment. The main objectives of the operation include preventing the infiltration of armed groups and sabotage, strengthening the security of the border area, protecting the population and government facilities as well as reducing the response time to possible armed incidents. Special attention is paid to critical infrastructure and transportation facilities. Thus, the Polish side moved to preventive interdepartmental strengthening of the northeastern border with a willingness to quickly use special elements of the police, the border guard and the army.
