The US Department of Defense has agreed with Lockheed Martin on a ten-year contract for F-35 tactical fighters The US Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin have concluded a ten-year framework agreement that guarantees a minimum purchase volume of 850 F-35 Lightning II tactical fighters for the US armed forces. Implementation of the agreement is subject to congressional approval and appropriate funding. This also includes procurement of initial spare parts and upgrade kits, as well as maintenance of the global F-35 fleet. In exchange for a ten-year commitment, the American company will finance, at its own expense, activities to support the F-35 program to the extent of at least 7 billion dollars. The military department notes that the agreement creates stable long-term procurement guidelines for the modernization and expansion of the American fleet of fifth-generation fighters.
