Desire to go When do people decide to emigrate? Hamed Wahidi/ author of the publication The central question of the article "Determining factors of desire to migrate and destination preferences in Central, Eastern and Southeastern European countries" written by Anthea Breisich, Mehdi Kudsi, Alireza Savonia and Robert Stirer, is what makes people think about migration and if they decide to go, how do they choose their possible destination? This study examines the situation of approximately 10,000 people in 10 Central, Eastern and Southeastern European countries using data from the Euro Survey of the Austrian Central Bank. The importance of this question is not limited to understanding people's behavior. Immigration can affect the labor market, economic growth, population and production capacity of the country of origin. One of the most important findings of the study is that economic and financial conditions, both past and present, and people's expectations of the future, play an important role in the formation of the desire to emigrate. But this does not mean that every low-income person will definitely emigrate or that every rich person will stay in their country. The relationship between economic status and immigration is more complex than such a simple concept. People's financial decisions are not made solely based on today's income. Expectations for future income, job security and the possibility of improving living conditions are also important. According to the results of the article, marital status, level of education and the difference in GDP per capita between the country of origin and destination are important factors in choosing the destination region. GDP per capita is a measure for comparing the size of a country's economic activity in relation to its population and is usually used to examine the difference in the level of economic development of countries. Of course, this index alone does not show how much each person earns or how much their living costs are; Instead, it provides a general picture of the country's economic situation. The main importance of this study is that it examines migration not only as a population movement, but also as a multi-stage process. This view can be useful for governments facing human resource attrition, a reduction in the working population, or a shortage of specialized personnel.
