Summary of today's editorial "Economic World": The implications of the inflation data of more Dr. Taimur Rahmani; member of the Faculty of Economics, University of Tehran The inflation rate of more 1405 shows that the monthly inflation reached 4.4%, the spot inflation reached 88.7% and the annual inflation reached 76.8%. Rural spot inflation is 107% and urban 85.5%. The spot inflation of food products was 113.4% and non-food was 74.6%. Rent inflation is at 33.4% and has prevented overall inflation from reaching triple digits, but housing growth could increase it. Eight disadvantaged districts experienced triple-digit inflation and the pressure of inflation continues to weigh on the bottom deciles of society. A review of the inflation trend since 2017 shows that inflation jumps in the past fell quickly after a peak, but the spike that began in the winter of 1403 was the most intense and longest and brought the economy to high levels of inflation. Despite the cessation of growth in inflation around 89% in recent months, it seems difficult to reduce inflation to previous levels. Estimates show that the cost shock or the reduction in liquidity growth cannot alone justify the cessation of the rapid growth of inflation. A more consistent explanation is that the government managed the budget deficit and its revenues by adjusting controlled prices such as exchange rates and energy issues to compensate for the decline in oil revenues and war spending. Although this action initially created an inflationary shock, it moderated the deterioration of the budget deficit and prevented the economy from rapidly entering the valley of hyperinflation. The US Treasury Secretary's attempt to create an ever-increasing budget deficit and push Iran into triple-digit inflation has so far been completely unsuccessful. However, the future trajectory depends on the government's ability to control costs and inflation remains fragile. Slight changes in spot inflation do not indicate the end of the era of rising inflation and the economy still has a long way to go to return to stable conditions. the channel.
