Makbarat-o-Shuara: A literary sanctuary in Tabriz Located in Tabriz's historic Sorhab district, Makbarat-o-Shuara (Mausoleum of Poets) commemorates generations of Persian poets, mystics and scholars. The cemetery, mentioned in Hamdullah Mostobfis Nuzat ul-Golub, endured Ottoman attacks, earthquakes and floods before a redesign by architect Gholamreza Farzanmehr in 1971 turned it into a cultural landmark. Asadi Tosi was the first poet to be buried there; Khaghani, Katran Tabrizi and Shahriar - the last buried - rest in them. The impressive contemporary monument offers visitors a glimpse of the deep literary identity of Tabriz.
