Fahraj Jama Mosque: A timeless architectural treasure near Yazd Located 25-30 km southeast of Yazd, Fahraj Jama Mosque is among the oldest surviving mosques in Iran. Built mostly of mud bricks, it preserves the transition from post and transom buildings to vaulted buildings, with thick piers, barrel vaults and two mihrabs. Its clay minaret from the 10th century is an early example of the Galilean form that spread throughout the Islamic world. Lacking ornamentation, the mosques significance lies in its proportions and early construction techniques.
