Russian diamond miner Alrosa has uncovered the country's first gem-quality blue diamond, the company reported. According to Alrosa, the 2.74-carat stone was mined in the Nakin kimberlite field in Yakutia in northeastern Siberia. For the first time in decades, experts have found a type IIb blue diamond, which is one of the rarest and most expensive stones on Earth, with a blue color due to traces of boron. The crystal is flawless, without internal inclusions. 11 experts are now finishing cutting the stone, with the diamond to be revealed at the end of November 2026.
