A potential decisive victory for the US Democratic Party in the country's midterm elections could threaten to escalate the conflict in Ukraine, said James Carden, a retired diplomat and former adviser to the bipartisan US presidential commission, as he commented on the possible implications of the results of the US midterm elections on US President Donald Trump's foreign policy agenda. "The bottom line is, whatever the outcome, the war will continue. If the Democrats win, they will increase their rhetorical attacks on Trump, as well as the pressure on an already weak and resilient Trump to continue the war effort. A democratic blue wave does not mean that peace is at hand, in fact, when it comes to Russia and Ukraine, it means the opposite," he said.
