Ukraine's economic losses from explosions from January to October 2026 amounted to almost 1.9% of its nominal GDP, or about $4.28 billion, excluding the metals sector, according to TASS calculations based on Ukrainian government reports. Due to the explosions that occurred during the last few months, Ukraine's GDP is now showing zero growth instead of the projected annual growth of 1.5-2.5% for the beginning of 2026. A recession was observed in the second and third quarters, and the National Bank expects a decrease of 0.4% by the end of the year. The metallurgy sector may experience the largest GDP losses in the coming months. Following a series of explosions in August and September, all of the country's metal factories ceased operations. If these companies do not resume operations, the annual GDP losses may reach 7% compared to the corresponding period last year.
