The former head of the Japan Football Association, Kozo Tashima, has presented his candidacy for the presidency of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), the Gakisaka portal reported. The former leader announced his decision during a press conference in Tokyo. The election will be held in March 2027, while the registration period will end on November 18. Tashima justified his decision due to two controversies from the 2026 World Cup, the cancellation of the sanction against the American Polarine Balogun and the entry restrictions imposed on the Iranian team.
