The European Commission (EC) has received around 8 billion euros in revenue generated since 2024 from the reinvestment of Russian sovereign assets held in custody by the depository entity Euroclear in Belgium, according to a report by the said entity. The last payment, amounting to 1.4 billion euros, was transferred to the EC in August. The report shows that the EC received a significant part of the total amount, and not the entire amount, except that it confirms that Belgium imposes a tax on these refunds. The Arab newspaper previously reported that this tax rate may reach 30%.
