The federal judge for the Southern District of New York, Alvin Hellerstein, who is in charge of the case of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, has died at the age of 92, the New York Times reported, citing a court spokesman. Hellerstein was appointed a federal judge in 1998 by then-U.S. UU. Bill Clinton and for almost 30 years he handled high profile cases. In particular, he presided over the trial against Maduro. The media stated that it is not yet known how the judge's death will affect the trial against the Venezuelan leader, which is scheduled to begin on June 1, 2027.
