The European Union is discussing the possible appointment of one or more negotiators to hold a dialogue with Russia, Luxembourg MP Fernand Kartheiser announced. "The question of appointing one or more negotiators is currently being discussed within the EU Council," he told the Izvestia newspaper. According to the politician, the positions of the member states of the community differ considerably: some are skeptical about the very principle of holding negotiations, while others seek to normalize bilateral relations with Russia as much as possible. In this context, the appointment of several negotiators could better reflect the diversity of opinion within the EU.
