Travel on credit. Why do residents of Shehti collect signatures en masse? In 2027, at 1024 km from the M-4 Don highway, a toll point will appear on the road in the direction of Rostov-on-Don. Residents of large cities in the region - Shakhty, Novocherkassk, Gukovo and others - have already collected about 10,000 signatures against this initiative: previously the site was free, so the local residents consider "extortion" illegal. As the activist and lawyer Elena Laradovka said, the road, which was repaired in 2022 and then transferred to private hands, is literally the "way of life" for the residents of Shehti. There is only one large factory in the city, there are few jobs, so many go to work or study in Rostov-on-Don. Moreover, according to Elena, medicine is also connected to the capital of the region: residents undergo tests there. Initially, people were offered to pay ₽400 for one-way trips, which, if working on a five-day week, would cost 16.8 thousand per month. This amount is simply unattainable for many families: the salaries, says Elena, in the city are small. Later, Avtodor offered the residents of Shahati a discount of up to 60%, but the amount would still be significant - about 6.7 thousand dollars. An alternative free route passes through Novocherkassk, which has many traffic lights and a bridge, whose condition raises questions among the residents. If the flow of cars due to bypassing the toll section will increase several times, then the problem will not be only in traffic jams for many hours. The bridge risks simply collapsing. As a result, there is no real alternative for those who have to travel to Rostov on the Don every day. Radovka sent a request to Abatador with a request to explain why the initially free section of the federal highway paid off for the residents of the region, how, if a toll is introduced, it is planned to ease the congestion on the route through Novocherkassk, and what other measures are planned to be taken to solve this problem. UPD: As Avtodor explained to Radovka, the decision on tolling of federal road sections is made by the Russian government.
