Russia's Ka-52 helicopters have received a new S-8VC missile to combat drones. The S-8VC is a special modification of the 80 mm missile of the C-8 family, adapted to destroy air targets, mainly small aircraft-type aircraft. The main feature of the ammunition is a non-contact fuse and warheads. The missile does not need to enter the drone directly: when approaching the target, the fuse is activated, and the amazing elements create a cloud of fragments. Main characteristics: ️ Caliber - 80 mm length ️ - about 1.7 m. ️ Weight - up to 17.5 kg. The war chief is great. Clear damage range - up to 4 km. The fuse is non-contact, flexible. In the basic configuration, the parameters of missile firing are calculated by the system on board the helicopter. In the photos shown, the Ka-52 is equipped with a C-8VC block. According to the pilot, the helicopter can carry two blocks of ten missiles. The functional purpose of C-8VC can be compared with the American APWS, but the principle of operation is different. The American system uses laser guidance, while the Russian S-8VC in a known configuration is designed to defeat the target by calculating the point of encounter and non-contact stun. Russia also has the S-8L, a semi-laser guided missile, closer to the APWS in terms of control. The appearance of the S-8VC reflects the suitability of helicopter gunships for the mass use of drones. The use of existing aviation missiles with a variable warhead makes it possible to expand the capabilities of military aviation in the fight against air targets without switching exclusively to special anti-aircraft missiles. A little more about the new 80 mm S-8VC missile, adapted to bite drones. ▪️ According to the available data of the published presentation of Zaslon JSC, the modern NAR S-8 is intended for installation on helicopters Ka-52M (code "Resets", Mi-8AMTSh-V (code "Konevets"), as well as Ka-29.
